Welcoming Back Dame Kiri Te Kanawa

Friday 11 September 2015

We’re delighted to announce a new addition to our Autumn 2015 events programme – a Vocal Masterclass with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa on Wednesday 4 November.

This exciting event is part of our autumn series of vocal masterclasses, featuring distinguished singers Sarah Connolly CBE, Edith Wiens, David Rendall and Patricia MacMahon.

Kiri Te Kanawa gained legendary status almost overnight after her sensational debut as the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1971. From then, she moved rapidly into the front rank of international opera, and has become one of the most famous sopranos of modern times.

Dame Kiri is Visiting Professor at the Royal College of Music, and in May 2015 was awarded an honorary doctorate at the RCM’s annual awards ceremony by HRH The Prince of Wales. In 2014 the Royal College of Music commissioned a portrait of Dame Kiri as part of the Sky Arts TV series Portrait Artist of the Year, which now hangs in the RCM’s Britten Theatre.

The Vocal Masterclass with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa takes place on Wednesday 4 November at 2pm in the RCM’s Britten Theatre. Tickets cost £5 and can be booked via the RCM events website or the RCM Box Office on 020 7491 4314.
