Ida Haendel at the RCM

Wednesday 19 June 2013

On Wednesday 3 July the Royal College of Music is privileged to welcome violinist Ida Haendel to give an afternoon masterclass in our Britten Theatre.

Ida Haendel CBE is one of the most prolific and legendary musicians of our time. She has performed with most of the world’s leading orchestras under numerous star conductors - including an amazing sixty-eight Proms performances - and has been an inspiration to the greatest violinists of today, gaining praise from stars such as Maxim Vengerov, Tasmin Little and Anne-Sophie Mutter. In 2000 she received an honorary doctorate from the RCM.

This masterclass gives London audiences the very rare opportunity to witness the legendary violinist pass on her knowledge to the next generation of star performers from the RCM. The Violin Masterclass with Ida Haendel takes place at 2.00pm on Wednesday 3 July in the RCM’s Britten Theatre. Tickets cost £8 and are available from the RCM’s Box Office on 020 7591 4314 or www.rcm.ac.uk/boxoffice.

The event is part of the exclusive musical showcase ‘Ida Haendel London 2013’ - a week-long celebration of the grand dame of the violin. The week commences on Sunday 30 June, when Ida is present as Guest of Honour at the RCM’s String Showcase at the Wigmore Hall. After the RCM masterclass, Ida will then perform herself in An Evening with Ida Haendel at Cadogan Hall on Friday 5 July, in an event that also includes an interview with Rob Cowan and a performance of Ravel’s Tzigane by RCM violinist Lyrit Milgram.

In celebration of Ida’s visit, a special website has been established, featuring a host of images, quotes, performances and tributes. Visit www.idahaendel.co.uk to discover more about this extraordinary artist.
